Wouldn’t it be nice if we could convince our clients to stop hiring people as Accountants who “know QuickBooksยฎ” (because they have figured out how to write a check or record a deposit) – but then wonder why we have to charge so much to clean up the mess? OUR INDUSTRY NEEDS A ‘FLIP’
Part of the problem is the DIY mindset. Now anyone who can buy QuickBooksยฎ is an Accountant, and anyone who can buy TurboTaxยฎ is a Tax Pro. Right?
That is wrong! SO WRONG!
Seriously, they need to stop with those commercials. I can cut with a scalpel, but I should still not be hired as a heart surgeon.
Now for my opinion on the other part of the problem – and that, my friends, is US.
Wait! Let me explain. If we are part of the problem, we are part of the solution, too.
Some of us still let clients bring us Excel spreadsheets and paper receipts. We let them keep using inferior programs. We let them keep using that horribly-structured QuickBooksยฎ file that we know takes their staff 4 times as long to get what they need from it. Yes, we hate when they bring us messy books that we have to struggle through to even think about doing our job, but it is also hurting them. We know they can’t use that information to help grow or even properly manage their business, but we spend hours making sense of it instead, just to get the return finished.
Basically, we let our clients continue some terrible practices all year long. We think being pleasers is harmless, but it is truly doing our clients a horrible disservice!
WE ARE THE EXPERTS. They came to us for knowledge and direction and guidance, so WHY would we continue doing things the way they already told us isn’t working, instead of leading them to the success we know they can have?

Since that probably won’t happen any time soon, I implement accurate New File Setups, tailored for their business type, and get us all a little bit closer to that utopia!

Upgrades: Conversion, Migration
Don’t risk losing data! Is it FINALLY time to convert from QuickBooksยฎ Desktop to QuickBooksยฎ Online? Maybe your client has an outdated version of QuickBooksยฎ Desktop (more than 3 years) and needs to be “leapfrogged” or “stairstepped” through the upgrade. Do it safely! Let me help.

Make Readys: Database Import
Is your client finally ready to use QuickBooksยฎ as a customer or donor database, but there are thousands of names in another system? Was a previous import done incorrectly that created a long list of ‘other names’ you need to convert to vendors or clients (or even accounts)? Is it finally time to integrate inventory, but have no time to get those items in individually? Small Jobs: Quick Fix
Uncleared transactions from ages ago in a bank reconciliation. Old, outstanding A/R transactions or unapplied bills and bill payments. An unmoving Undeposited Funds balance. All things that affect the financial reports and tax return, but may not be immediately obvious to a reviewer. These things will never fix themselves and need to be done the QuickBooksยฎ way to avoid creating new problems. I speak QB and have the right tools, you’re busy enough already. Let me help.

Total Renovation: Full Flip
Don’t lose years of history and usable data that can be salvaged by a renovation! Do you dread trying to prepare a 990 for a client when their file is structured incorrectly and the reports it gives you are unusable? Of course you do – you have to wade through a big mess before you can even begin! Maybe the Chart of Accounts is too long, too complicated, or just wrong – and your client could better utilize QuickBooksยฎ with Classes or Jobs, but has years of data using the old method. Total demolition and starting all over is NOT the only option if you have a skilled ProAdvisor with the right tools! I FLIP those books with a file restructure.
