Nonprofits also have very unique transaction and reporting requirements most other organizations don’t have to worry about; financial statements for the audit and 990 returns, comparison reports for the Board, year-end giving statements (to name a few)…..and most will have to accomplish this with fewer qualified, knowledgeable professionals available than ever before.
As the Executive Director of two nonprofits, I know this – which is why I decided to focus my efforts as a professional service provider on nonprofits and worked hard to become what some consider to be an expert in the industry and their one-stop shop.
I also know that we are #bettertogether, so through a nonprofit fellowship that currently holds 150+ members, I am currently finalizing the plan to complete the state association formation for Texas nonprofits that will eventually join the national council.

BUILD IT: Formations, Filing Changes
Are you thinking of forming a new nonprofit organization? Maybe you need to make changes to an existing one, or terminate one that is no longer serving. Even inactive organizations still have filing and reporting requirements, as long as they are still officially in existence – stay compliant and avoid problems and penalties!
GET THE PERMITS: Obtaining Exemptions (501c3)
You have formed a nonprofit with your home state – now what? Should you obtain federal 501c3 (tax exempt) status independently OR as part of a group? How will you obtain state exemption afterward? There is a time deadline for application of exemption after formation is complete – don’t wait too long! Verify you are legally allowed to operate as a 501c3. I can assist with the application of individual OR subordinate exemption.
PROPER STRUCTURE: QB File SetUp
You’ve heard you should use QuickBooks®. I agree! Did you know there are several different versions? Which one is right for you? Will it be set up correctly for your nonprofit? Will your Admin be able to use it effortlessly? Will the reports it generates makes sense? Where can you get it at a discount? Spoiler Alert: I have the answers to these!

Conversions, Migrations, Upgrades
Don’t risk losing your data! Are you thinking of converting from QuickBooks® Desktop to QuickBooks® Online (or vice versa)? Have you changed subscriptions or hardware and need help migrating between versions? Maybe you have an outdated version of QuickBooks® Desktop (more than 3 years) and need to be “leapfrogged” through an upgrade. Do it safely! Let me help.

Quick Fixes
Small tools only required. Is the ‘Undeposited Funds’ account out of control? How about old bills or vendor credits that need to be fixed or uncleared transactions on your bank reconciliation? Maybe some imports made a huge mess of your Chart of Accounts or the ‘Other Names’ list. All of these affect your financial reports and will not fix themselves – but are small cleanup jobs for a knowledgeable ProAdvisor with the right tools!
